Replacing an existing tile or metal roof with new metal sheeting, including battens, insulation and flashings.
Re-roofing replaces the whole roof covering rather than patching it. The existing tiles or sheets come off, the structure underneath is checked, and new sheeting goes on over fresh sarking and insulation.
Choosing steel for a coastal address
Salt-laden air is the biggest single factor in how long a metal roof lasts near the sea. BlueScope specifies different COLORBOND® steel grades for different distances from breaking surf. Standard COLORBOND® steel is not recommended for severe marine environments, where COLORBOND® Ultra steel is the specified product.
Distance from the water, the prevailing wind and whether rain washes the roof all affect which grade suits a property. It is worth settling the grade before the quote, not after installation.
Profiles
Corrugated, Trimdek® and standing-seam profiles differ in minimum roof pitch, span and look. The existing roof structure and pitch usually narrow the choice before appearance does.
